In a year where the indie scene was dominated by games that were more about exploring worlds and narratives, The Swapper is one of the games that managed to tell a poignant story and marry it with challenging game mechan

Wendy is haunted by her dead twin sister, Abigail. Obsessed with her to the point of talking to her frequently, Wendy can summon Abigail’s ghost to fight alongside her in combat. This is helpful in beating mobs of monsters and keeping Wendy safe. But why is Wendy so obsessed with her late sister and unable to move on? The text from the loading screen involving Wendy states that she "clings fiercely to the grief over her sister’s death" because she’s afraid that moving on would make her forget Abigail. That makes her depressing character seem less weird, but certainly sad

Wigfrid is exclusive to the Reign of Giants DLC, unlocked through gaining enough experience. She is dressed like a Valkyrie, a figure from Norse mythology, but that doesn’t mean she is one. Several clues tell us this: when she examines a pirate hat she says, "This hat confuses my character… I mean, my söul." Plus, the loading screen text related to her says that she "cultivated her persona" over many years. So if her Valkyrie form is just a role she plays, it’s likely her name isn’t even Wigfrid. So who is she, rea

Moonlighter isn't exactly a game that hands you a farm and some crops, but it's highly similar to Harvest Moon since it also involves management and exploration. In Moonlighter, you get to play as a medieval fantasy shopkeeper-- you're responsible for arming fantasy adventurers to the te

Minecraft is already quite similar to Harvest Moon in that it gives you plenty of freedom to do stuff. However, if you want a game that balances both games well enough, then Staxel might be better for your preferences. It has the graphics and charm of Minecraft with the gameplay of Harvest Mo

That being said, all of the control keys discussed here can be adjusted in the settings menu. This is just the default way the keys are bound to controllers when the game begins. If the key bindings don't feel right, change them and see how it g

The 2014 show will include 2013 and 2014 made games to be awarded separately, based on the nomination year, in one ceremony. Information on 2014 nominations will be released in June while the votes for the 2013 winners must be submitted by April 21st. The award ceremony takes place November 21, 2014 at the Carlu in the heart of downtown Toro

My Time at Portia looks highly similar to Yonder but it's a lot more focused and deeper. It's also more similar to Harvest Moon in terms of locale and activities. You are dropped in a small but fascinating town full of interesting people you can talk to or eventually marry. The difference is the charming 3D graphics and third-person perspect

_ Don’t Starve Together _ is a fun but often-punishing survival game where you work with your friends to forage, craft, and fight off the shadows. As you attempt to survive each day, you could probably use an occasional pick-me-up. That might mean shuffling players around, making sure your stats are up, or messing with the flow of time its

In Plantera you don't exactly see your farm from a top-down isometric view, Nintendo Switch release date instead, you are confined to a 2D sidescroller perspective but that doesn't diminish the game's charm one bit. Plantera allows you to grow your own garden until it becomes a good enough habitat for other species too. Watching your meek plants turn into rigid tress and become populated with all sorts of fauna can give a feeling of achievement and comp

The 2013 finalists for the Canadian Videogame Awards span seventeen categories and include 29 games, narrowed down from 75 nominated titles. To qualify titles, at least in part, must be developed in Canada. Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag leads the pack this year with an impressive 12 nominations. Last year's show saw Far Cry 3 take him the most awards , including Game of The Y

Reus has players take charge of four huge elemental avatars, allowing you to terraform an earth and maximize its output to please the population. This is a god game that isn't about imbuing the player with all the power of an omnipotent being. This is a game about how futile that power is in the face of human gr

It's not as exciting as your customers' work, but it's a heck of a lot safer. Aside from managing the shop, you must also keep your supplies and items topped up. You can do that by exploring the game world and looking for curios and rarities you can sell to adventurers who need them... or simply hoard them and use them on your own adventu

Players may well think that Webber is a humanoid spider; he certainly looks like one, but his form is more complicated than that. He is, in fact, a child living inside a spider that tried to consume him. How horrible is that? You wouldn’t guess it from the spider silk beard he grows. Does that mean it’s his or the spid
